During the post-2008 economic correction, one of the local investment bankers on Bay Street confessed to me that his firm had hired a gentleman for professional guidance who had just secured his PhD in Trust.

“Let me get this right” I started. “To bring in clients — you had to identify someone who has secured a PhD in ‘Trust’ to train your investment bankers?”

So, when an Alberta-based company, introduced to me by a respected peer, called TrustBix Inc. (TSXV: TBIX) explained their model evolved around ‘trust’, I listened. In fact, it occurred to me as they communicated their business model that perhaps they may have just hit the proverbial Holy Grail for the investment market nail on the head.

As communities and businesses across Canada face swelling COVID numbers, stakeholders in Canada’s beef industry are trying to help processors ride the second wave.

Keeping employees healthy and containing outbreaks has been top-of-mind for processors across North America since COVID broke last spring. It’s become de rigueur to screen plant employees for symptoms each day, but using that information to spot trends is another issue. Both TrustBix and Canada Beef have worked with software developers so that employees can complete online health assessments at home, alerting plant management of potential cases and emerging outbreaks. Edmonton-based TrustBIX Inc. has entered into a $300,000 contract with two other city corporations in a pilot project to track biomass and waste streams in the diversion of material from landfills to create new products for agricultural and industrial markets.

McDonald’s Canada will return to sourcing 100 percent Canadian beef in September 2020, ending the temporary sourcing adjustments announced in late April due to industry constraints. FROM BETAKIT: CANADIAN AGRI-FOOD NETWORK RECEIVES $49.5 MILLION TO DEVELOP AGRI-TECH SOLUTIONS

The Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN), a $108.5 million project aimed at developing exportable farming solutions, has received an investment of “up to” $49.5 million from the federal government.

The project, which is being led by Alberta Innovates and the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre, along with Alberta’s Olds College and Lakeland College, is expected to begin with eight partners from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec. The project will specifically look at technologies using artificial intelligence, robotics, and precision agriculture….
